National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)

National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is being conducted by the Council of Architecture, being the competent & final authority for the purpose of fixing norms and standards for architectural institutions and having the necessary expertise to hold a Common Aptitude Test in Architecture, at national level to provide a single window system for appearing in aptitude test and to facilitate institutions, students and public at large for admission to First year of 5 year B.Arch Degree Course at all recognized Institutions all over country.

The Council had introduced NATA in 2006 after receiving requests from various schools of Architecture in the country to conduct a Common Architecture Entrance Test for admission to Ist year of 5-year B.Arch. degree course. The main objective of the Council was to avoid great hardships and incurring of huge cost by the hapless students seeking admission in architecture course, in applying for individual aptitude tests for various schools in different states and traveling all over India for appearing in examinations all over India, which deprived them of an opportunity to apply for admission in schools of their choice, while at the same time also doing away with the redundant exercise of conducting different aptitude tests by the schools and other authorities, who also approach Council to render its assistance in the conduct of their tests.

NATA has been conducted by the Council annually since 2006, in terms of the provisions of Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, published in the Gazette of India.

These Regulations prescribe that the candidate needs to qualify an Aptitude Test in Architecture conducted either by NTA (i.e., JEE) or NATA conducted by the Council for admission to the Architecture degree course.

NATA measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e., Architecture, through assessment of cognitive skills, visual perception and aesthetic sensitivity tests, logical reasoning and critical thinking ability, etc., besides the learning that the candidate has acquired over the past years.
